YOUR HEALTH MATTERS

This was the topic of our July RFF Network Meeting where we first heard from Dr Arnold Fertig about the ongoing consultation for the public to comment on CCG proposals to make more urgent appointments bookable in advance by calling NHS 111, as well as the below two options:

  • Option 1: Patients can walk in or book urgent appointments at four Urgent Treatment Centres, at King George Hospital, Queen’s Hospital, Harold Wood Polyclinic and Barking Community Hospital. Bookable appointments available at eight community urgent care service locations, and no walk-in service at Loxford Polyclinic or South Hornchurch Health Centre.
  • Option 2: Patients can walk in or book urgent appointments at two Urgent Treatment Centres, – King George Hospital and Queen’s Hospital. Bookable appointments available at ten community urgent care service locations, and no walk-in service at Harold Wood Polyclinic, Barking Community Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic or South Hornchurch Health Centre.

Everyone is encouraged to read the the consultation document and respond to the questionnaire on this website link. http://www.redbridgeccg.nhs.uk/urgent-care

After a short break the audience then heard a most engaging and thought-provoking talk from Dr Pamela Nkyi about the important role of faith groups in improving mental health.  We learnt about the determinants of mental health – social, economical, ecological and physical health and the importance of early intervention before mental ill health becomes chronic and more difficult to treat.  Dr Nkiyi works in public health at the council and explained that good mental health is a priority for Redbridge.  Please email the office on faith.forum@redbridge.gov.uk if you would like a copy of Dr Nkyi’s very informative powerpoint presentation.    Many people were keen to ask questions of Dr Nkiyi and everyone agreed that it had been a very helpful and positive experience to learn more about this vital topic that affects 65% of UK residents at some point in their lives.  Free training for faith and community groups about mental health is being offered on Tuesday 18th September 10am-12pm.  To book a place and get venue details please contact kate.griffiths@london.gov.uk.
