Our Annual Walk of Peace

RFF ANNUAL WALK OF PEACE  Sunday 19th May 2024 - 12.50pm (for a 1pm start) to 4.30pm

Each year Redbridge Faith Forum arranges an Interfaith Walk of Peace through Ilford.

Our annual Multi-faith Walk of Peace is a gentle stroll through central Ilford that brings together people from many diverse faith communities in Redbridge in a spirit of fellowship and harmony. As we walk together, visiting the different faith venues, and hearing from each faith about this year’s topic FAITH: FINDING PEACE WITHIN, we can appreciate the common precepts we share and we are able to further develop our understanding and respect for each other. This Walk of Peace is the replacement for the scheduled one which was due to take place in October 2023 and which we sadly had to postpone due to the difficult circumstances at that time.

Whether or not you are affiliated to a faith community please do join us for either the whole or part of the Walk of Peace. You can join/leave at any point.

During the walk, we start at the Holocaust Memorial in Valentine's Park (Cranbrook Road entrance) around 12.50pm (for a 1pm start). From there we visit different places of worship in Redbridge. At each venue, we get a tour and a brief talk from our hosts. Each year has a different theme.

Our theme for 2022 was "Caring for our elderly and Vulnerable"

Redbridge Faith Forum – 2022 Walk of Peace

For the thirteenth year, over 70 people gathered for Redbridge Faith Forum’s Annual Walk of Peace. This year, the focus was caring for the Elderly and Vulnerable.

As in previous years the group, drawn from all over the Borough, gathered at the Holocaust Memorial in Valentines Park and heard words of support from our Mayor, Councillor Thavathuray Jeyaranjan, who started the walk and pledged to be with us again next year.

After a short input from giving us the Jewish perspective on our topic the group moved to visit the Buddhist Vihara, the VHP Hindu Temple, Islamic Centre in Albert Road, SS Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church and the Sikh Gurdwara.

At each of the faith venues we were welcomed and heard from their representatives regarding the importance of Caring for the Elderly and Vulnerable. It was unsurprising that at each venue the common theme of how, within the precepts of each faith, we are all called to both nurture and care for those in need. There was a special presentation during the walk from St Francis Hospice, whose staff care do so much for people of all faiths and none living in the local area.

After a short closing talk at the Gurdwara all were invited to join the community for the Langar and a delicious hot vegetarian meal.

We would like to thank all who joined us for the walk and each of our presenters at each venue. Where possible, copies of each talk will be available via the RFF website. We would also like to thank the RFF Trustees and all our volunteers, the local Police and everyone who made this walk possible.

Additionally, faith leaders have recorded individual video messages giving their unique response on this vital topic of faith, climate and the global emergency which are available here on the Redbridge Faith Forum website.  People of faith are trying to understand how to  play their part in the climate emergency.”

Our theme for 2021 walk was Faith, Water, and the Climate Emergency to highlight the need for urgent action on climate and nature ahead of COP26, the United Nations Climate talks held in Glasgow.

A range of faith venues were visited where walkers heard perspectives on this topic from leaders from different faiths in Redbridge.
